![]() He did after all, suffer arguably the greatest downfall of any on this list.ġ0 George W. Adolf Hitler graces (or sullies, rather) this list, and is easily the most hated dictator in history, but he's far from the most influential. Recent history is always more pertinent to our lives, even if it is just as dead and gone as history from thousands of years ago. Most people probably couldn't even guess the #1 conqueror, let alone consider him hated. For the sake of this list, we measure their greatness as conquerors by the amount of square miles they conquered. Truthfully, the everyman judges these men not on exactly how many they killed or how much they conquered, but their motive. History shall always remember them as warmongers, for better or worse. Multi-continental war, genocide, death and destruction are some of the tools of their influence their legacy. In one sense, these are the most influential people in history, in the purest sense of the word "influence". Somehow, that thought didn't stop them from gobbling up the land of their enemies as their empires expanded.Īll of the men on these lists have had a great and terrible influence on human history. In some trains of logic, the blood of all those who died in the wake of their armies is entirely on their hands. Most all of these men were great strategists, with varying levels of intellect. After all, the defining characteristic of conquerors is the ability to kill others and take their stuff moreover, to convince people underneath you to kill people and take their stuff. Perhaps the adjective "greatest" is something of hollow praise for the men on this list.
